    Dan & Emily

I was so honoured to be asked to take my beautiful friend’s wedding photos last month and, frankly, it was so much fun! Dan and Emily are a beautiful couple and embraced all their guests with love. I so enjoy going to weddings where the tiniest needs have been thought of and met, and their wedding was like that. It was as much a celebration of all the people in their lives as well as their own love for eachother – and the world needs more of that, doesn’t it!

We also dived into Emily’s history during her photoshoot, going to back to her childhood home, her grandparent’s property and an old shearing shed where she used to play with her brothers. It’s wonderful to be invited into someone’s personal world as a photographer, and I hope the photos we took can aid in her memory keeping and sharing with her own family in the future.

Thanks for having me guys, it was a treat to photograph you and hang out with you on your beautiful wedding day.

  • Brad & Ellen

    Brad & Ellen

I hardly know what to write of Brad and Ellen’s wedding day except for the great privilege I felt at having a window into their lives on this day. It was also the first time I’ve visited The Old Shirely Hotel in Bethungra, which was just an amazing venue which I highly recommend, to stay in and to party in!

We really raced to catch the last of the late Autumn light on this day. The colours were incredible as we drove through the country in Brad’s dad’s beautiful vintage Jaguar (a first for me!). What a great treat!

Thanks for having me guys, you were wonderful to photograph. xx

  • Dan & Emily

    Dan & Emily

I’m more than excited to be photographing Dan & Emily’s farm wedding later this year in Young, NSW. They are naturals in front of the camera as I discovered, and it was great to take some engagement photos of them last week. I can’t recommend engagement photos highly enough, it really helps you both to relax in front of the camera and helps me to see how you photograph, everyone is different and putting people in front of a lens can lead to surprising results sometimes. If I can understand how you and the camera gel then I can get the best results from your wedding photos. I had nothing to worry about with these guys, however, perfectly at home and beautifully photogenic they worked that camera! I was so glad to shoot here too, I’ve been wanting to use this palette of natural, muted shades for a long time and with the perfect spot, the perfect couple and the perfect opportunity I love how it all came together!

  • Vish & Mukta

    Vish & Mukta

I was invited to photograph Vish & Mukta’s traditional housewarming ceremony, recently. A real treat as I’d never witnessed one before.

Apart from Yoga, my only exposure to the Hindu culture was a little study into religions through my uni degree. The fluidity of the Hindu ways extremely interesting to me. The Hindi word dharma, loosely ‘religion’, encompasses a broad understanding of ways and practices and the range within what we call Hinduism is extensive, so I don’t feel I can do it justice, simply take it as it is and be enthralled by it!

One of the beautiful things of Hinduism, and perhaps Indian tradition, is it’s celebration of life! The joy, the colour, the sound, the physical nature of their rituals and ceremonies, the way their traditions involve the whole family, I loved how during this celebration…which I think was all in Sanskrit? (so I didn’t understand a word!)…the children made noise, people were busy in the kitchen right next to the ceremony area, and everyone came and went either as they pleased or as the ceremony demanded it….I couldn’t have been sure. It just seemed like a lot of fun with everyone getting into it! Through it all the Priest just kept going and I kept on clicking away. What. A. Treat. I love that photography opens the door into other worlds.

  • Mia Dyson

    Mia Dyson

In Young, where I live, there is this super little cafe which has a long reach and a sharp ear. Art of Espresso not only makes THE best coffee I’ve ever tasted, but also has it’s ear to the ground when it comes to independent music in Australia. Every country town needs a cafe/venue like this! Adrian manages to find and bring all sorts of sensational singer-songwriters to this small town which is just embracing each act with gusto! Mia Dyson and Young hit. it. off. In fact, though I’m late posting, Mia herself has recently been ‘discovered’ by Pink in California and I hope that she is receiving some well-deserved publicity, so maybe this timing is good? She is just magic. After her show myself and the guys from The Burley Griffin (my hubby’s band) have been listening to her music almost non-stop. If you haven’t seen her or heard of her, go and find out what you’ve been missing!

  • Location Scouting with Lisa Scope

    Location Scouting with Lisa Scope

Lisa Scope, a working Film Location Manager, was brought out to the Riverina district (where I happen to be living currently) by the Riverina Arts Council. At the last minute I was able to participate and I’m glad I did, even though my main motivation might have been to meet other creatives working with photography/film in the area, the bonus of learning to think like a location scout and meet a working professional in the industry was also illuminating! Having never thought of the prospect of this career, there is something in it that appeals to me. I quite like driving for one, I love buildings and architecture (such things were the subject of passionate debate growing up, with a Finnish artist/carpenter as a father it was hard not to talk about craftsmanship around the dinner table) and having the opportunity to stickybeak into all sorts of divine dwellings would be a dream! Of course there are others aspects to being a Film Location Manager, but on this day we were mostly being trained to see things from a film-makers point of view rather than a photographer’s point of view. It’s all about information folks, visual information that allows you to ‘see’ the location in detail. This equals a lot of photos. I won’t show you all 300 I took on the day, but here are a few of the landscape and architecture around Harden and Cootamundra. I’ve often driven through Harden wishing I could take the time to stop and capture some of the incredible Art Deco architecture in the area, now I finally have! (Also, very little editing as it’s not about photographic artistry, rather about coverage!) • Wild and Free Kids

    Wild and Free Kids

I am an advocate of children running wild and free through nature (it’s the hippie in me – thanks for that gene, mum!) and I love to watch my kids doing that too. I’m pretty happy that we managed to find this tangle of trees and plants just a hop, skip and jump away from our own home and the kids and I love to go and hang out there.

I’ve done this every year, take my children to do a photo shoot. As a mum it’s fantastic to do this, I am able to see and appreciate their incredibly fast growth year by year, sometimes us mums can miss this happening before our very eyes! And as a photographer I love to do this too. I can take as much time as I want, control the conditions (choose the day, timing and clothing…that’s as far as I can go actually!) and experiment (my kids are pretty patient with the posing!).

Here are the results. Such a privilege to watch children explore and create in their own worlds, they have such amazingly creative brains when they are young. Get your kids outside! Find a place to get muddy! I recommend it!

    Blessings.

  • The Burley Griffin

    The Burley Griffin

The Burley Griffin are one of Canberra’s fine bands. Their latest project is a new EP, their first as a fully formed band. I’ve had the inside angle to a lot of the pre-production, which has been such a privilege.

Seeing as you can’t hear it yet, just feast your eyes on these studio portraits for now. It was good to have my buddy, Keren alongside me as fellow groupie.
