Hey Guys,
I can’t believe this wedding was six months ago. A pregnancy and birth may have slowed me down, but this wedding was no more a favourite than any other wedding here.
These guys were ridiculously fun to photograph, and such a riotous gang of people! We love getting back into country Australia – Young, NSW where my husband grew up. The open space out there is phenomenal and farmers know how to party, that is for sure! It was just lovely driving out to Jordan and Nikita’s house surrounded by paddocks on a day when Summer decided to let up a little. The weather could not have been more perfect! Apart from a delightful day spent with this couple exploring their home region, and farms which have been in the family and among friends for generations, I think I can safely say that Nikita is the the only bride I will ever photograph standing on a horse!
Thanks Nikita and Jordan for having us, it was a total hoot!
Brett and Karissa’s wedding was a vibrant and lively affair. The venue of choice was St Clements Monastery in Galong which is a perfect venue for a wedding. I love the idea of bringing guests away from their home town to continue the party the next day, everyone loves an excuse to party on, don’t they!?
St Clements hosted superbly. I was incredibly impressed with their facilities, the setting and the food! Quite amazing. I hope to see them host many more weddings (along with the retreats which are often open to the public and I think much needed in this day and age. Go to their website and check out what’s happening there.)
I was pretty amazed by Karissa’s ability to get everyone on task and organised, but as the co-owner (with sister, Nicola) behind Scissor Sisters in Young, NSW you’d expect nothing less than a powerhouse, and that’s what she is!
Congratulations, Brett and Karissa, it was a treat to see you married surrounded by such a loving family and community.
I somehow got myself all the way to Noosa for this wedding. There was no hesitation though, I knew I wanted to shoot for these two, they were both so relaxed and accommodating, giving me licence to do my thing, which I always love!
On the day they were equally relaxed, which was great for me as I bumbled around Noosa’s busy streets attempting to find a vacant carpark. When I finally arrived at Jocelyn’s space she casually shooed me away to photograph rings with John and grab some food and a coffee, and I happily obliged, if there is an Anti-Bridezilla, she was it, luckily for me!
Thanks, John & Joscelyn, for having me photograph your wedding. I consider myself privileged to have made the adventure up there to witness a snippet of your lives together, your beautiful, kind, conscientious, generous spirits have made a great impression on me.
They have kindly allowed me to share just a few of their photos, and so here are a few from the day and from our beach photoshoot (a nice change to have a beach as a backdrop!).
I was so honoured to be asked to take my beautiful friend’s wedding photos last month and, frankly, it was so much fun! Dan and Emily are a beautiful couple and embraced all their guests with love. I so enjoy going to weddings where the tiniest needs have been thought of and met, and their wedding was like that. It was as much a celebration of all the people in their lives as well as their own love for eachother – and the world needs more of that, doesn’t it!
We also dived into Emily’s history during her photoshoot, going to back to her childhood home, her grandparent’s property and an old shearing shed where she used to play with her brothers. It’s wonderful to be invited into someone’s personal world as a photographer, and I hope the photos we took can aid in her memory keeping and sharing with her own family in the future.
Thanks for having me guys, it was a treat to photograph you and hang out with you on your beautiful wedding day.
I love this family. I met Hayley six years ago on top of Mt Panorama in Bathurst when she was registering downhill longboarders, including my hubby and hers, for the ASRA downhill longboarding race down the mountain. They were crazy days. She was so cool, had the best looking mohawk I’d ever seen on anyone ever and had the biggest smile I’ve ever seen. Six month old Sophia decided Hayley’s jade necklace was her new best toy and was pretty much glued to her whenever she was around, so we became friends and I’m so glad we’ve managed to stay in touch and I’ve been able to watch her and Owen marry and become really awesome parents to two of the most vibrant kids around (that Juniper is a HOOT!). Yes, I love this family and I loved photographing them A LOT! Can’t wait for the next time!
Hayley is also a fabulous artist running under the name Haeli Van Veen, do check out her work. I can’t wait to have the space and the cash to buy one of her beasts down the track.

Part of the initiation into country life in Young, NSW is a visit to nearby Grenfell for the Henry Lawson festival. The highlight for me (two highlights) was (1) Grenfell’s fabulous art deco architecture and (2) the traditional Maori dancers, in particular the Haka, which, I mean, WHO does not love the Haka!? The festival had a NZ slant to it this year as, apparently, the esteemed Henry had spent some time there in the 1890s.
I hardly know what to write of Brad and Ellen’s wedding day except for the great privilege I felt at having a window into their lives on this day. It was also the first time I’ve visited The Old Shirely Hotel in Bethungra, which was just an amazing venue which I highly recommend, to stay in and to party in!
We really raced to catch the last of the late Autumn light on this day. The colours were incredible as we drove through the country in Brad’s dad’s beautiful vintage Jaguar (a first for me!). What a great treat!
Thanks for having me guys, you were wonderful to photograph. xx
Venue: The Old Shirley Hotel, Bethungra
Flowers: Native Botanical
Hair & Makeup: Gusolios
As many good things do, I began running these workshops entirely unexpectedly! Friends asked me to run one…many unconnected friends…and I realised there was a need! “Well, if people want it and I can provide it, why not do it!” So, it kind of just…happened.
Now I’m rolling with it and it’s rolling well with me. I really LOVE teaching this course! And while I will continually refine it, I really can recommend it as a step up into your own photography. It’s relaxed, we work through our cameras step by step, we start taking photos and, hopefully, by the end you’ve got a kick start in your photography endeavours.
I also have several ‘interested persons’ on an informal kind of waiting list, so if you’d like to be contacted when I run a third course then please let me know so that I can contact you directly and you won’t have to miss out (there are no obligations of course).
Here are some pics from the course I ran a couple of weekends ago, some by me, some by the participants.
